Durham firefighters rescue man trapped under debris after shed collapse
Durham firefighters rescued a man trapped under debris from a structural collapse, according to the fire department.
The Durham Fire Department said it happened at about 11:30 a.m. at 4700 Rollingwood Drive near Barwinds Circle.
First responders found two people attempting to tear down a two-story shed. While doing so, the fire department said the shed partially collapsed and fell on one of the people, trapping his lower body under the debris.
According to the fire department, 27 fire personnel respond, and it took 10 minutes from first arrival to extract the man from the debris.
The man injured is the son of the homeowner, WRAL News has learned. Two brothers were working to tear down their father's shed.
The man injured was conscious and alert during the entire event, according to the fire department. Durham County EMS took him to Duke University Medical Center in Durham for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries to his lower body.
The fire department said no one else was injured.
