Duke's Banchero, Williams win ACC awards; UNC's Bacot lands on all-conference team

Greensboro, N.C. — The ACC men's basketball awards were unveiled for the 2021-2022 season on Monday.
Wake Forest was well-represented among award winners as Alondes Williams won Conference Player of the Year and Steve Forbes took Coach of the Year honors.
Williams received 41 votes for Player of the Year, beating UNC's Armando Bacot, who got 31. Bacot, coming off a huge 23-point performance in Saturday's win against Duke, was named All-ACC.
Williams averaged 19.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and a league-high 5.3 assists per game for the Demon Deacons in his first season in Winston-Salem.
Duke freshman Paolo Banchero won Rookie of the Year honors and teammate Mark Williams was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year. Banchero, who averaged 17.1 points and 7.7 rebounds a game, is the fourth Duke player in the last five years to win the award. Mark Williams led the ACC with 2.81 blocked shots per game.
NC State's Dereon Seabron was the league's Most Improved Player while Florida State's Matthew Cleveland was Sixth Man of the Year. Seabron landed on the second team along with Duke's Wendell Moore Jr.
