A driver died in a crash on N.C. Highway 210 in Johnston County near Benson early Wednesday morning.

Speed was a factor in the single-vehicle crash, the State Highway Patrol said.

The vehicle crossed the highway’s center line and hit a power pole, splitting it in half.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 3-year-old wasn't belted in during the crash and was found lying in the back seat with a serious head injury.

A 3-month-old was restrained and found to have no visible injuries.

A female passenger suffered minor injuries.

The three survivors were taken to WakeMed.

N.C. 210 between Raleigh Road and Interstate 40 was closed through most of the morning commute as Duke Energy fixed the broken power pole. A live power line was on the road.

The road reopened around 8 a.m.
