Customers line up for new Dunkin' in Garner

A brand new Dunkin Donuts opened in Garner early Wednesday morning, and people were waiting in line before the doors opened for a chance to win free coffee.

The shop opened at 5 a.m., but numbers of people arrived early. The store promises the first 50 customers will get a coupon book with 56 vouchers for a free medium hot or iced coffee.

One woman was in line at 2:15 a.m. and said the vouchers would be perfect for her lifestyle.

"I am a preschool teacher, and a mother of a 1- and a 2-year-old, so sleep is for the weak," she said. "Coffee is really helpful, as well as pastries in the morning, so having a place that is literally on my way to work in the morning and getting some free coffee sounded like a great deal."

Right now a cup of hot coffee is $2.49, so the coupon book is worth almost $140. As gas and grocery prices rise, a free cup of coffee sounds even more enticing to customers.

A ribbon cutting will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, and organizers said they're expecting hundreds of people at the grand opening.

This Dunkin Donuts is unique, with a new modern and innovative design. The restaurant is designed to save 25% more energy compared to a standard Dunkin’ restaurant, according to a press release.

The location will be open daily from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 101 Commerce Parkway in Garner.
