Downtown Mebane is home to tropical plant boutique
If you care for plants, you know it's an act of love. There's plenty of trial and error, learning and unlearning, even self-forgiveness when a plant dies that you're fond of. And I've found while caring for them how greatly it coincides with our own self-care.
That, too, is an act of love.
Metanoia is a tropical plant boutique in Mebane. Walking through its recognizable pink door had been on my list for months. A ride through downtown put it back on my radar and prompted a Google search. I wanted to check out its products, business hours, etc., beforehand.
My search provided all of the information I needed. It also brought to my attention an aspect I knew my daughters would consider ''cool" – Metanoia's plant lab. It's a DIY plant potting and terrarium crafting activity station. If you're unfamiliar with terrariums, they're typically clear glass or plastic containers used to house small plants and retain moisture.
This ended up being a great Valentine's Day gift for my girls. We went right after school and had such a fun time. They walked out with the cutest plants, a bold planter, and colorful terrariums.
As a mother, I often converse with my daughters about self-care, celebrating their individuality and self-love. At the plant lab, my daughters extended that loving energy by learning to care for something outside of themselves.
So how does it work? It's all super simple!
Brittany Rose is the owner of Metanoia. I found her to be extremely helpful and thorough in explaining the process. She was also very patient as my daughters wandered around meticulously choosing needed items and asking questions.
First, they decided on planters and terrariums. Then, they chose plants. Next came the potting and pizzazz! There was colorful sand, seashells, rock and charms. My girls made beelines from one station to the next.
In the meantime, I chatted with Brittany about the origin of her boutique and how she found her love of plants as a stay-at-home mom. She was candid about her wins and flops alike and I related so deeply. Although I've kept my few (current) plant babies alive for some time now, there have been casualties.
Luckily, I now have an expert to turn to right across town at Metanoia!
In the shop you'll find succulents, cacti, air plants (which I'd never heard of), and many more indoor tropical plants. And if you're looking for something specific that's not in the store, plants can be shipped from the nursery to you.
We're not done yet.
As a boutique, you'll also find additional items like clothing, jewelry, and artwork made by various local artists. I was floored by some of the pieces and my daughters wanted to buy everything they could hold. Metanoia will definitely stay in mind for birthdays and special occasions.
Something to think about for the upcoming Mother's and Father's Day holidays, too.
