A house fire was accelerated by the strong winds, which caused the fire to spread.

A dog died Thursday in a Raleigh house fire.

The fire was reported before 10:30 a.m. in the 5600 block of Sherrif Place West in Raleigh.

Raleigh firefighters said the cause of the fire was not weather related, but strong winds helped the fire spread quickly throughout the home.

According to the Raleigh Fire Department, a dog died in the fire. No humans were injured.

The owner got the dog out and noticed her cat running back into the house. When she went inside to rescue her cat, the dog followed her back inside, firefighters said.

Firefighters on scene tried to revive the dog but were unsuccessful.
