Spearfisherman captures close encounter with Great White off OBX

A close encounter with a Great White shark failed to faze David Scherrer as he dove off the coast of the Outer Banks last week.

"At first I thought it was awesome," Scherrer told The Viriginian-Pilot.

Faced with one of Earth's great predators, Scherrer was armed as well. A spearfisherman by trade, he kept his gun between himself and the shark. It's visible in the video he recorded as he swims alongside the shark.

When the shark makes a turn toward Scherrer, the speargun provides perspective of just how close it comes before turning and swimming away.

Scherrer shared the video on Instagram, writing," Well that was kinda gnarly!!!".
