The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has launched a $20 million innovation challenge designed to develop suicide prevention strategies.
The “Mission Daybreak” initiative is part of the VA’s 10-year strategy to reduce veteran suicide.
“To end veteran suicide, we need to use every tool available,” said VA Secretary Denis McDonough in a news release. “In the most recent National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report more than 45,000 American adults died by suicide, including 6,261 veterans.”
Phase one of the Mission Daybreak initiative invites researchers, industry, advocates, clinicians and health innovators to submit detailed proposals to reduce veteran suicides.
