Aerospace and defense contractor Duotech Services will add 95 jobs as part of a $6.5 million expansion in Macon County, state officials said Tuesday.

State economic development officials approved a grant of up to $845,100 over 12 years. The project is expected to grow the state’s economy by an estimated $416.8 million, according to the state Department of Commerce.

Duotech, which is based in Franklin and specializes in the maintenance of older defense equipment, will pay an average salary of $91,271 for the new positions. That’s more than twice the average wage in Macon County, which is in Western North Carolina.

“We welcome the expansion of this nimble and innovative company that’s supporting the defense of our country and its allies while creating great jobs in western North Carolina,” Gov. Roy Cooper said in a statement.

Duotech, which is owned by Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based private equity firm Bernhard Capital Partners, has operated in Franklin since 1986. The company focuses on fixing and maintaining defense equipment that is no longer supported by the manufacturer. The company also designs, develops and makes radars for commercial and military applications.
