In a world where digital screens overpower children's attention, Duran Copeland and his three-year-old son, Eli, are on a mission to bring back the joy of learning through their latest project, "Dad I Can Read: Eli Learning ABCs With Daddy."

This book not only educates young minds but also changes reading into a meaningful bonding experience between fathers and children.

"I wanted to create a space where dads could spend quality time with their kids, learning and growing together," Copeland said. "Especially for fathers and sons, to have a strong bond."

He says the inspiration for the book came from reading bedtime stories to his children. As they always requested more stories, Copeland began to recognize the strong bond forming during those moments of reading.

That sparked the motivation for the idea behind the book.

"Being able to build a strong relationship with your children is crucial for any parent, especially for men," Copeland shared. "My children and I have a blast learning and growing together, and I want everyone to see how rewarding these bonds can be."

"Dad I Can Read" isn't just an ABC book; it is a father-son adventure through the alphabet, filled with fruity fun and zestful learning.

"I want to celebrate learning together," Copeland said. "This book is perfect for kids ages 3 to 7.

Copeland says it took a month to bring the book to life, from formatting and illustrations to publishing.

However, this is just the beginning. Copeland and his son have plans for a series of books covering everything from colors to numbers, all designed to make learning an exciting adventure.

Copeland offers guidance to individuals interested in self-publishing their books.

"Shoot for the stars. Copeland said. "All it takes is an idea and the rest is putting in the work behind it."

Research from the Murdoch Children's Research Institute found that when fathers read to their children at home, their language development increased as they grew older.

Research shows that fathers' reading to their children gravely impacts their development in several key areas. Sharing stories fosters solid emotional bonds, builds a rich vocabulary and language skills, and sparks curiosity and a love of learning.

These interactive experiences boost cognitive development, create cherished memories, and contribute to a child's overall well-being and emotional security, leading to a well-rounded and enriched childhood.
