A crash closed all northbound lanes of the Triangle Expressway Sunday afternoon near U.S. Highway 64 in Apex.

Before 1:15 p.m., the road was closed just after Exit 59 for U.S. 64 near mile marker 60 and Jenks Road. The Town of Cary said at least one person had to be removed from an SUV at the scene.

The caush of the crash and the condition of the driver were not provided.

Law enforcement were at the scene detouring motorists until 2 p.m., when the road reopened. Motorists were asked to avoid the area.

N.C. Highway 540, or the Triangle Expressway, is an 18.8-mile toll road that extends the partially complete "outer loop" around the greater Raleigh area from I-40 to the N.C. Highway 55 Bypass.
