Cows on the loose after tractor trailer overturns in Winston-Salem

A tractor-trailer carrying 80 cows overturned in Winston-Salem Thursday morning, WXII reports.

The crash occurred along U.S. Highway 52 near Interstate 40 around 4:05 a.m.

Winston-Salem police tweeted that all northbound U.S. 52 traffic is being diverted onto eastbound I-40.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation says this may not clear until close to 10 a.m.

Police said, of the 80 cows on board, ten escaped. Four of the cows are still being searched for.

Anyone who sees cattle roaming is asked to call the non-emergency hotline at 336-773-7700.

It is unknown what caused the tractor-trailer to overturn.
