Couple in custody after break-in, assault and high-speed chase through Garner and Raleigh, police say

Police in Garner are investigating a break-in at an apartment on Tuesday that turned into a high-speed chase. According to Garner police, a break-in happened around 9:02 p.m. at an apartment complex on the 400 block of Hillgrove Lane.

Police arrested a couple Tuesday after they say broke into an apartment, assaulted someone who lived there and then led officers on a high-speed chase through Garner and Raleigh.

According to Garner police, a break-in happened around 9:02 p.m. at an apartment complex on the 400 block of Hillgrove Lane.

Police said the people who broke in assaulted someone and that all parties knew each other.

When officers arrived, the couple who broke in ran from the scene in a black 1999 Mercedes Benz sedan.

Police chased the car from White Oak Lane to Jones Sausage Road, then to I-40, then to South Saunders St. and finally back to I-40. Police said the chase exceeded 100 mph.

Police said the couple ran from the car around 9:17 p.m. on I-40 near Saunders St. Officers later apprehended the couple, and no injuries were reported.

Raleigh police assisted Garner police with the chase.

Authorities are working on the seizure of the car and the break-in and assault are under investigation.
