UPS announced Tuesday that it plans to hire 930 seasonal employees in the Raleigh area as part of its annual "UPS Brown Friday" event this Thursday through Saturday.

Across the country, UPS plans to hire more than 60,000 seasonal employees during this three-day hiring blitz. The hiring weekend is part of the company’s broader effort, announced in September, to hire more than 100,000 seasonal workers to support its annual holiday shopping rush.

"Full and part-time seasonal positions – including primarily package handlers, drivers and driver-helpers – have long been an entry point for permanent employment at UPS," said the company in a statement.

According to UPS, over the last three years, about a third of those hired by UPS for seasonal package handler jobs were later hired in a permanent position when the holidays were over. Roughly 138,000 UPS employees began their careers in seasonal jobs.

UPS is offering current employees $200 for every eligible employee referral they submit.

The "UPS Brown Friday" event takes place virtually Nov. 4-6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Interested people can register here.

Those who are unable to attend a hiring event can still apply easily online at UPSjob.com.

Other large companies hiring thousands ahead of the holidays

In mid-October, Amazon announced that it planned to add 150,000 seasonal jobs this year, with an average starting pay of $18 per hour. They also offered sign-on bonuses of up to $3,000 and an additional $3 per hour depending on work-hours and locations.

Those jobs included roles in fulfillment centers, sorting centers, regional air hubs and delivery stations.

Wal-Mart also announced earlier this week that they had hundreds of positions available, including supply chain associates like lift drivers, order-fillers, shipping loaders, diesel technicians, warehouse workers and drivers.

The average worker in these positions is paid $20.37 per hour, Walmart said.

Wal-Mart is holding 5 hiring events this week between Nov. 3 and 4 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. More information on locations can be found here.
