Easy fix for stimulus check glitch

"Payment status not available."

It's the IRS message many people have complained about getting when they try to get the status of their stimulus payment.

5 On Your Side says the key to unlocking the answer could be using all CAPS.

Yes, it's a very weird trick that many people have had success with.

For example, when you go to the "Get My Payment" page where you enter your personal information, instead of typing "123 Main Street, Raleigh", type it as "123 MAIN ST, RALEIGH."

For some reason, it's been the instant key to getting into the "Get My Payment" tool, where you can then enter your bank information instead of waiting for the IRS to send a check in the mail.

Other users have said they were finally able to get in after using abbreviations, AVE instead of avenue for example.

Or they've just used the street name and no "street" or "road" added.

Others say they got through using a different web browser.

If you're still waiting for a check, it's worth a try.

5 On Your Side did reach out to the IRS about this "trick," they have not yet heard back.
