One State One Score: Performers of all ages perform Ode to Joy in NC Symphony project

I just wanted to share a little update to a post I wrote way back in December. Back then, during the height of COVID, the N.C. Symphony sought videos from musicians, singers and dancers from across the state as part of its One State One Score project.

The artists were invited to virtually perform to Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" melody from his Symphony No. 9 and send in their videos. And they delivered. More than 1,400 people submitted videos. All ages participated, including students from more than 400 schools. And there were more than 30 types of instruments performed — from violins and flutes to cowbells and a nose-whistle.

“We are so proud to share the work of art that our great state of North Carolina made together, even at a time when we were separate,” says Sandi Macdonald, North Carolina Symphony president and CEO, in a press release. “The extraordinary creativity of our citizen musicians, dancers, and artists is inspiring.”

The video is posted now. Check it out! Maybe you know one of the performers!
