Contractor wanted for felony after 5 On Your Side investigation

A contractor 5 On Your Side investigated for months, is now wanted on felony and misdemeanor charges.

Scott Taylor was the owner of Shapes Construction and a member of the Hillsborough Planning Board.

In December 2022, 5 On Your Side reported that Rita Bongarten hired Taylor for a kitchen remodel project. Bongarten told us she gave Taylor about $55,000 in payments for the project that was estimated to cost about $90,000. However, Bongarten says she later learned Taylor was not licensed and that she was paying invoices for work that had not been done and materials that were ordered incorrectly by Shapes Construction.

Bongarten canceled her contract and asked for her deposit back, but never got it.

Now, 5 On Your Side has learned there is a warrant out for Scott Taylor in connection to Bongarten’s case.

He is wanted by the Durham County Sheriff’s Office for felony obtain property by false pretense, misdemeanor fail to work after paid and misdemeanor false advertising.

Taylor has not been located by deputies.
