An Alamance County farmer is now back on his feet and has returned to work after being injured from a bull encounter weeks ago.

"I was hurting bad enough, but I couldn't breathe," said Randy Lewis/owner. "Both my lungs were collapsed, but I could not breath."

In mid-May, Lewis, the owner of the Snow Camp-based Ran-Lew Dairy Milk Co., says he escaped the bullpen and attempted to call 911 after being attacked.

A paramedic responded to the call and followed the phone's signal, which was just one mile away.

"He grabbed me and told me everything was gonna be all right and a helicopter was on the way," said Lewis.

With severe chest wounds at UNC Health, Lewis was told he might be hospitalized for up to six months.

However, he returned home in less than a month with a wound vac which is a device that prevents lung infections.

"Everywhere it goes, I go," said Lewis.

The biggest boost to his recovery has been the outpouring of support among friends and strangers.

News of his injury attracted support and donations through a GoFundMe reaching more than $180,000.

"You know, people showed up from the time they heard I got hurt - the yard was full of people and two hours.," said LEWIS.

He also says he was overwhelmed and grateful.

"I think the only thing I can really tell you is I'd like to say is just thank you, everybody, who put themselves out - and done whatever they did to help make sure that I had a job and a life to come home to," said LEWIS:

Despite the accident, Lewis continues his family's tradition as a 5th-generation farmer.
