Weekend projects close ramps, lanes on I-40 and the Beltline

There are three road projects drivers in the Triangle should be aware of this weekend.

Western Boulevard at I-440 in Raleigh

Crews on Friday night plan to close the ramp from Western Boulevard to westbound Interstate 440.

The ramp will close at 9 p.m. Friday, July 21, and remain closed for nine days depending on weather and the work timeline.

Their work will reconstruct part of the ramp to match up with new lanes on the widened section of I-440 south of Western Boulevard.

Drivers will be detoured to I-440 East to Hillsborough Street to reaccess I-440 West.

I-40 at Airport Boulevard in Morrisville

Work continues this weekend on the Interstate 40 interchange at Airport Boulevard.

Starting Friday, July 21, at 8 p.m., both ramps on the eastern side of the interchange are closing -- the I-40 West ramp to Airport Boulevard and the Airport Boulevard ramp onto I-40 East.

The ramps are expected to reopen in the fall.

Until then, the following detours will be in place:

  • Westbound I-40 traffic trying to access Airport Boulevard will continue to the I-540 interchange (Exit 283A) and immediately take I-40 East (Exit 1A) back to Airport Boulevard.
  • Airport Boulevard traffic trying to access I-40 East can either use Aviation Parkway to the north or McCrimmon Parkway and Aviation Boulevard to the south.

I-40 between Raleigh and Clayton

There will be two closures on I-40 between Raleigh and Clayton as that widening project continues.

Crews will close the Jones Sausage Road bridge from 9 p.m. on Friday, July 21, until 5 a.m. Monday, July 24.
