Authorities are revealing more details about why SWAT teams, helicopters and an armored sheriff's truck were in a residential Garner neighborhood on Sunday.

Police said on Sunday that an armed robbery suspect barricaded himself in a vacant home on Atchison Street after a police chase. The man was taken into custody by SWAT teams.

Quadarius Crenshaw, 24, from Clayton, is facing multiple charges connected to robberies in Wake and Wayne counties.

He was charged with two counts of breaking and entering related to two car shops in downtown Raleigh early Friday morning. Police say Crenshaw stole the BMW and AR-15 from Mira Auto Sales on Fayetteville Road. Officials say he used the stolen BMW try and take an armored Brinks truck from the Bank of America on Benson Road.

Officers found the stolen BMW on Benson Road, and as they approached the car, the man driving it fled down Benson Road. Eventually, the man crashed the car at the intersection of Benson Road and Atchison Street, officials said. Witnesses told police they saw the man run through people's backyards with what is believed to be a stolen gun.

“Law enforcement officers undoubtedly stopped a dangerous criminal from continuing a multiple-day crime spree with the suspect’s apprehension on Sunday," said Garner Police Chief Joe Binns.

Crenshaw is also facing charges in Wayne County for first-degree burglary, kidnapping and robbery.
