Raleigh business owner brightens 30 kids' Christmases with bike giveaway

A local barber in Southeast Raleigh is paying it forward this Christmas by providing brand new bicycles to children in need.

Reggie Lewis, the owner of Barber Kingz, took the initiative to raise funds and purchase dozens of bikes for underserved kids in the community.

Partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Raleigh, he wants to help children that are facing challenging circumstances.

Lewis told WRAL news about his own childhood experiences in southeast Raleigh, where Christmas often lacked gifts under the tree.

“I remember being a kid in southeast Raleigh with no Christmas gifts under the tree. It’s not a good feeling,” said Lewis. “I am holding this bike giveaway because I want to make sure these kids know someone cares about them having a gift to open up Christmas day.”

Thirty bikes were given away during a time where money isn’t stretching as far. These parents said they won’t have to make those tough decisions.

"I think it’s a good thing for a lot of parents who can’t afford it to be able to have that surprise for their child," said Theresa O'Bryant.

Nikki Grady said a bike was a top item on her son’s wishlist. She can already picture the moment he takes it for a spin.

"He's going to really love that!" Grady said. "I already know because he can do a lot more tricks with it and wheelies and stuff like that."
