Recall: Baby Shark bath toys too sharp; children injured

CPSC is recalling 7.5 million Robo Alive Junior Baby Shark Sing and Swim Bath Toys.

Millions of Baby Shark toys are being recalled after children were reportedly impaled by them.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling 7.5 million Robo Alive Junior Baby Shark Sing and Swim Bath Toys. Most of them are full-size toys that measure about 7" from nose to tail. They were sold individually and in packs of three. About 1 million of the toys being recalled are mini-size, measuring about 4".

They were sold at Walmart, Target and other retailers nationwide, and online. The full-size Baby Shark bath toys were sold from May 2019 through March 2023 for between $13 and $15. The Mini Baby Shark bath toys were sold individually and in multi-unit packs from July 2020 through June 2023 for between $6 and $20.

The toys have a hard plastic fins that have caused serious injuries.

According to the CPSC, the manufacturer Zuru, is aware of 12 reports of children being hurt when they have fallen or sat on the recalled full-size Baby Shark bath toy. Those children suffered impalement injuries, lacerations and puncture wounds. Nine of those children had to get stitches or medical attention.

There are specific steps you have to take to get a refund for these recalled toys.

If you have one of these Robo Alive Junior Baby Shark Sing & Swim bath toys, look for:

  • Model Number #25282 is printed in raised lettering on the bottom of the toy.
  • A date code beginning with "DG" followed by the year, month and day. The date range is DG20190501 through DG20220619.

Zuru is offering a a full refund of $14 for each full-size bath toy or $6 for each mini-size bath toy, in the form of a prepaid virtual Mastercard. It is asking parents to take these steps.

  1. Register your toy by calling 833-820-0839 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or report your toy online at https://www.recallrtr.com/bathshark or www.Zurutoys.com.
  2. Disable the tail fin — cut it off the 7-inch toy or bend it on a 4-inch toy.
  3. Write the word “recalled” and the unique code provided during registration on the toy.
  4. Upload a photo of the product, showing it is disabled and marked, at https://www.recallrtr.com/bathshark.

Zuru will issue refunds for each photo received..
