Child's death leads to recall for lickable candy
A child died after choking on a candy. Officials blame the packaging, and now there’s a massive recall to get these candies out of kids hands.
There are actually two different recalls involving two different manufacturers, but both make what’s called a rolling liquid candy.
Their packaging has a little ball that rolls at the top of a tube of liquid candy.
It’s that ball that the Consumer Product Safety Commission says can fall out of the packaging and become a choking hazard.
In April, a 7-year-old girl in New York was eating one of these candies, made by "Cocco Candy," when she choked on the ball and died.
Cocco Candy is recalling about 145,800 of those candies. To get a refund, you can contact the distributor, KGR Distribution Corp., at (888) 802-8823, by email at recall@kgrdistribution.com or online at kgrcandies.com.
A different candy marketed under the name "Slime Licker" has the same defect with a ball that can fall out of the packaging.
That recall is much larger, with 70 million units being recalled.
