The D.H. Conley Vikings were undefeated (8-0) coming into a non-conference matchup against the Chapel Hill Tigers Friday night. Chapel Hill's stout defense gave the Vikings their first loss of the season, 2-1.

Tyler Stillson started on the mound for the Tigers resulting in four strikeouts. Riley Treadaway was the starting pitcher for the Vikings.

Chapel Hill's Thomas Roberts put their first run on the board by capitalizing on a wild pitch in the first inning.

Roberts hit an infield single to get on base. Stillson moved Roberts to second with a hard ball to the shortstop resulting in an error. Within the same inning, the Vikings had another wild pitch that moved Roberts to third. Another Vikings wild pitch resulted in Roberts putting their first run on the board by stealing home.

The Tigers' second run came off a high midfield single with two outs that was hit by Roberts in the second inning. Jason Krieg was on second and was instinctively running full speed around third base reaching home.

D.H. Conley's only run started with a triple, hit by Luke Lambert. Lambert was brought home by Nolan Winfield with an RBI single.

Up by one point in the top of the seventh inning, the Tigers locked in on defense. The Vikings had some life left with their final chance to tie the game with an infield single by Mason Tyre.

Closer Zach Barnes struck out a batter to give the Tigers some energy to close the game. Tyre was then thrown out on his attempt to steal second. With one more batter left, Barnes closed the game with a strikeout.

D.H. Conley is now 8-1 and traveling to Winterville to face conference opponent South Central on Tuesday, March 28.

Chapel Hill is now 8-2 and will face Western Alamance in a non-conference matchup on Monday, March 27.
