The Drive-In at Carraway Village is offering weekly family movie nights with favorites like "School of Rock" and "Shrek" this month. The business, which opened in the fall, is at 600 Carraway Crossing, Chapel Hill, and offers up regular screenings throughout the week.

Its Family Night at the Movies takes place on Saturday evenings. Here's the schedule for February:

  • Feb. 6, School of Rock
  • Feb. 13, Shrek
  • Feb. 20, Gremlins
  • Feb. 27, Stand By Me

I always recommend that parents check Common Sense Media for reviews of movies, especially "Gremlins" and "Stand By Me," which is rated R, to make sure they are suitable for your family.

The theater also is marking Black History Month with screenings of "Dreamgirls" on Feb. 3, "Emperor" on Feb. 10 and "Hidden Figures," a family favorite of mine, on Feb. 17. There's also a Hitchcock Revival on Thursdays and romantic comedies and dramas on Fridays.

If you go, know that tickets must be purchased online before you arrive. Masks must be worn if you are outside your car. The movie's audio will be played via FM radio, so you can listen to it on your car stereo or with a battery-powered FM radio that you bring from home. Food trucks will be on hand with concessions.

Tickets are $10.75 for kids ages 4 to 10 and $12.90 for anybody older.

Fun addition: You can actually rent out the movie theater for private events, including birthday parties.
