Roxboro, the snow capital of central North Carolina, was one of the first areas to get hit by snow Thursday evening.

The initial snowfall started around 6 p.m. Thursday evening.

There were several transitions from light wintry mix, snowflakes and light freezing rain.

Heaviest rounds of snow came down around 7 p.m.

While most of it didn’t stick on the concrete, There was accumulation on parked cars.

Employees at local businesses told WRAL News they had been keeping their eyes on the weather all day.

Mary Long of uptown Roxboro said the location she works at had to close up shop early due to Sunday’s winter weather event.

She wanted to avoid doing that again.

"It’ll be nice to have light snow so we’ll be able to enjoy it, but also stay open so we can see the community because we didn’t get to do that much this week with all roads being so bad," said Long. "So it'll be nice to stay open."
