Boys basketball rankings: New Hanover climbs up to No. 6 in the state

22-0 New Hanover continues to climb in the HSOT Statewide Top 25 boys basketball rankings as the Wildcats continue to stack impressive wins over quality opponents.

New Hanover moved up to No. 6 in the state this week after it beat 18-3 Laney by over 26 points for the second time in a few weeks.

Northwood slid back one spot to no. 7 to make way for New Hanover. The Chargers are 19-3.

Mount Tabor, United Faith Christian Academy, and South Central dropped out of the Top 25 after losing last week. Those schools have been replaced by Swansboro, The Burlington School, and Panther Creek.

This week has some substantial changes to HSOT's Area Code Top 15 rankings, which are found below the statewide poll.

Here are a few things about how our rankings work in boys' basketball:

• Rankings are updated weekly and released on Monday
• All high schools in the state of North Carolina, excluding athletic training academies, are eligible for the statewide top 25
• There is a separate top 15 for the state's six area codes that is also updated weekly
• Rankings are paused during the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs
• Final rankings are released the week after the state championships
