Blasey Ford attended UNC in mid-1980s

Christine Blasey Ford, the psychology professor and researcher who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a high school house party, lived in the Raleigh area in the mid-1980s while attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Christine Blasey Ford, the psychology professor and researcher who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a high school house party, lived in Chapel Hill in the mid-1980s while attending the University of North Carolina.

Still Christine Blasey at the time, she graduated from UNC with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1988. She quickly moved to California, where she attended graduate school.

Media accounts describe her time in North Carolina as low-profile. According to The New York Times, Blasey Ford was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority, then known as a cheerleaders' sorority.

Blasey Ford was a cheerleader in high school, but not in college, according to the Times. She and a roommate shared an off-campus apartment.

The roommate, Catherine Ricks Piwowarski, told the Washington Post that the two were “not particularly involved in the social life. Our apartment for both of us was kind of a safe place. ... But we were a bit isolated.”

Blasey’s brother Ralph also attended UNC-Chapel Hill for some of that time. After earning a bachelor's degree from Duke University in 1982, he earned both an MBA and a law degree from UNC, graduating in 1986.
