Big wins in NC: $4 million ticket purchased in Kernersville, $1 million win in Asheville

Two Mega Millions tickets purchased in North Carolina have garnered big wins totaling $5 million.

According to the N.C. Education Lottery, a ticket purchased in Asheville won $1 million and a ticket purchased in Kernersville won $4 million.

The $4 million winner in Kernersville purchased a $3 Megaplier ticket using Online Play.

The $1 million winner in Asheville bought a $2 ticket at the Enmark Station on Tunnel Road.

Both tickets matched all five white balls in Tuesday's drawing to win a $1 million prize. The prize for the $3 Megaplier ticket quadrupled to $4 million when the 4X Megaplier hit.

Winners have 180 days to claim their prizes.

Three other winners in California and Florida also matched all five white balls in Tuesday's drawing. The $4 million win in North Carolina ranked as the largest prize won nationally in the drawing.

The odds of matching numbers on all five white balls are 1 in 12.6 million. The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million.

The new jackpot for Friday’s drawing now climbs to a $228 million annuity or $103.4 million in cash. You can watch on WRAL before the news at 11 p.m.
