Big-Time Cold On the Way

While we've had some chilly mornings and cooler afternoons so far this winter, we really have not gotten into the heart of the potential cold that we could experience. However, the pattern is about to flip big-time as we head into next week. We, along with most of the country, are in for a major snap of cold weather bringing life threatening wind chills to some in the Plains and the coldest highs that we have seen in over a year.

Temperature Outlook

While we’ve had some chilly mornings and cooler afternoons so far this winter, we really have not gotten into the heart of the potential cold that we could experience. Once the sun comes up, we usually warm up nicely and can even still spend some time outside in the fresh air. However, the pattern is about to flip big-time as we head into next week. We, along with most of the country, are in for a major snap of cold weather bringing life threatening wind chills to some in the Plains and the coldest highs that we have seen in over a year.

Across the United States, there are very few areas forecast to see above normal weather. The darker the shade of the blue color contours, the greater the chances of seeing below normal temperatures (our normal for this time of year is 52°). Thus, one can see the clear cold pool about to overtake most of the country!

Our wind chill values will likely be in the teens by Wednesday morning but check out some of the brutal cold in the Plains! Before this air mass gets to NC, some parts of Iowa could see wind chills in the -30 to -40° range!

The colder weather is likely to last for a bit, so it’s a good idea to keep the hat and coat handy as we make our way through the rest of winter!
