A bicyclist died Sunday night hours after a hit-and-run crash on N.C. Highway 98 in Durham.

Deputies with the Durham County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash site around 11:30 a.m. after a driver crashed into a bike then hit a deputy's cruiser.

Deputies said the driver, who was in a black Dodge Challenger, fled the scene after hitting the bike, crashing into the deputy then eventually overturning in the yard of a home on Mineral Springs Road.

The driver jumped out of the car, which flipped onto its roof, and ran away, but was captured.

Charges are pending for 33-year-old Blake Grady, according to the Durham County Sheriff's Office.

Grady, the deputy and the bicyclist were all taken to the hospital. Grady and the deputy are said to have minor injuries, but a friend of the family said the bicyclist died.

"The bicyclist was retired, married and in her early 60s," her friend wrote. "She was a very experience bicyclist. Her bicycle and helmet's flashing lights were still working even after the accident. Bicycling was one of her favorite pastimes and modes of exercise. She was very experienced, she understood the risks, and she always rode using nothing short of the best in safety equipment."
