It's finally fall! The beautiful weather and colorful fall foliage makes it the perfect time to go hiking.

Why go to the gym when you can get outside and enjoy the crisp fall air?

Here are my favorite hiking trails in Fayetteville.

1. Carvers Creek State Park

Carvers Creek State Park is my go-to spot.

My favorite trail is at the Sandhills Access location of Carvers Creek State Park. It's just north of Fayetteville, off of Ramsey Street.

I prefer the Wire Grass Loop trail because it's so deep in the woods. I feel like I'm far away from the rest of the world, and the trail is absolutely stunning.

You're able to see so many different species of wildflowers and trees on this trail.

The Wire Grass Loop is 1.4 miles, which is the perfect distance for a relaxing walk or light run. The Longleaf Pine Trail is 4 miles, if you're looking for a longer trail.

There's another entrance to the park in Spring Lake, which has another great trail.

It's rumored that there's a secret pond near the office. Check it out and see if you're able to find the secret spot!

The park hosts several events throughout the year. To learn more about upcoming events, go to ncparks.gov.

These trails are not paved, so be mindful that the ground may be uneven.

The Sandhills Access location is at 955 McCloskey Road. The Spring Lake location is at 2505 Long Valley Road. For more information, go to ncparks.gov.

2. Cape Fear River Trail

The Cape Fear River trail is another gorgeous spot to hike.

Hikers can enjoy stunning views of the Cape Fear River. This trail is paved, which is great if you like to bike or roller blade or if you have a stroller.

The parking lot is at 511 Sherman Drive. For more information, go to fayettevillenc.gov.

3. J. Bayard Clark Park & Nature Center

Clark Park is technically part of the Cape Fear River trail. What sets this trail apart is that its home to one of the highest waterfalls in the coastal plain.

Take a beautiful walk in nature then relax and enjoy a romantic picnic overlooking the woods and a breathtaking waterfall. This trail is paved.
