Bad cut or scrape? Here's when you need to take your kid to the doctor

Kids get cuts and scrapes and more than a few boos boos on those knees and elbows. But how bad do those injuries need to be to trigger a trip to the doctor and, possibly, some stitches?

Kids get cuts and scrapes and more than a few boos boos on those knees and elbows. But how bad do those injuries need to be to trigger a trip to the doctor and, possibly, some stitches?

WRAL-TV's Dr. Allen Mask tackled that question in a story earlier this week.

“Where is this laceration? If it’s anywhere near one of the more vital organs, like the eyes, the genital area or your face, I would say that you probably want to get it looked at sooner rather than later, simply because these areas are sometimes very hard to examine and they bleed,” said Dr. Purva Grover with the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Mask's story shares more information about how to treat minor wounds at home and when to go to the doctor.
