There were 19 people found living inside a one-bedroom apartment in southwest Houston Wednesday afternoon, sparking a police investigation.

Authorities found 18 adults and one teenager between 13 and 16 who were living inside a one-bedroom unfurnished apartment on Wednesday. What police believe was a smuggling bust occurred at a apartment complex next to some athletic fields.

"Nineteen people in a very small one bedroom apartment," explained Michael Skillern with Houston police. "Horrible conditions inside. No furniture at all. Including one unaccompanied minor."

Skillern said no one appeared in need of medical attention and no one claimed they were hurt.

"We know from dealing with these types of situations folks in that position don't immediately make an outcry," Skillern said.

Police said the apartment had only been rented for two weeks. No arrests have been made.
