Arrest made in sexual assault cases dating back to 1998 in Raleigh

Raleigh police arrested a man Wednesday in connection with sexual assaults they say happened in 1998, 2007 and 2009.

Tracy Lamont Thompson, 51, is charged with:

  • Felony first-degree kidnapping
  • Felony second-degree rape
  • Felony second-degree sexual offense
  • Felony attempted second-degree rape
  • Felony assault by strangulation

Police said the investigation and arrest was from a positive match from the Combined DNA Index System, which is a national database that is made up of DNA profiles from convicted offenders, unsolved crime scene evidence and missing people.

On Thursday, the Raleigh Police Department reported, "The evidence in these cases was included as part of the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) initiated by the NC Department of Justice."
