WMBF reports a family with two young children was injured in a stairway collapse late Friday in North Myrtle Beach.

Ofc. Patrick Wilkinson with the North Myrtle Beach Police Department told WMBF News the incident happened at around 10:15 p.m. at the Sea Cabin condos on North Ocean Boulevard.

Emily and Christopher Shill of Apex and their 4-year-old and 2-year-old children were using the stairs at the time it collapsed, Wilkinson said. When the family stepped onto the staircase to walk down, the stairway collapsed.

Officers also reported seeing the second-story stairway column broken and hanging onto the first story.

Police said the children appeared to be fine, but their mother was complaining of head and shoulder pain.

All four of the Shills were transported to the hospital.

The city of North Myrtle Beach is asking its building inspector to investigate.
