Longtime Red Cross leader Barry Porter to retire

The American Red Cross is known for its blood donation, teaching CPR and helping families after a disaster.

For the past 20 years, Barry Porter has served as the CEO of the Red Cross’ Eastern North Carolina chapter, leading the way to help thousands of people in their time of need. After 43 years with the Red Cross, Porter is retiring at the end of the month.

Next week, the Red Cross is hosting a big sendoff for Porter at 3 p.m. on April 24 at 100 North Peartree Lane in Raleigh. Anyone from the public wanting to attend can RSVP here.

People can also express their appreciation for Porter on the Kudoboard set up in his honor.

Porter’s official retirement is set for April 30.
