American Aquarium, Rhett and Link among State Fair performers
This year's N.C. State Fair musical lineup includes a YouTube duo, a Durham native who appeared on NBC's "The Voice" and a Michael Jackson tribute band.
Dubbed the Homegrown Music Fest, the series features a collection of concerts run Oct. 11-21 at Dorton Arena and at various stages throughout the fair. All shows are free to attend with a paid admission ticket to the fair. Advance tickets for the N.C. State Fair are on sale now.
“Our ag industry is one of the most diverse in the country, but you could say the same about the musical acts that call North Carolina home,” Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said. “This year’s Homegrown Music Fest features beach, heavy metal, jazz, country, gospel, Latin, bluegrass, rock, reggae, psychedelic and rhythm and blues.”
Seating for all Dorton Arena shows are first come, first served. Guests can lineup starting at 6 p.m. for each show. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and shows will start at 7:30 p.m.
The Homegrown Music Fest also includes performers on the Waterfall and Heritage Circle Bluegrass stages. Times on those stages vary.
American Aquarium, a Raleigh-based Southern rock band, will kick things off at Dorton Arena on Thursday, Oct. 11.
Katie Basden, a Durham native who appeared on NBC's "The Voice," will perform on Friday, Oct. 12, on the Waterfall Stage. Later that night, Rhett and Link, a YouTube duo hailing from Buies Creek, will play Dorton Arena. The pair is known for their comedic songs, sketches and a daily talk show on the platform.
The music series closes out on Sunday, Oct. 21, with the Michael Jackson tribute band, Who's Bad.
