Nashville HR director terminated

A month after two top leaders in Nashville, N.C., were suspended from their duties, it's still unclear why.

John Winstead resigned as Nashville chief of police on Oct. 30. Matt Joyner was terminated from his position as the town's director of human resources on Oct. 20.

Town manager Randy Lansing relayed the news about both, but has said he's not allowed to talk about the why because of personnel laws.

At the time of his firing, Joyner told WRAL News, "I know the reason but can't discuss it."

Joyner and Winstead were placed on suspension with pay Sept. 27 after Joyner said he made a claim against Winstead and Winstead made a retaliatory claim against him.

The town is now looking to fill both positions.

Lansing said that Fire Chief Chris Joyner will head up the police department on an interim basis, and Lansing said the goal was to name a new chief in January.
