Daycare worker fired for alleged involvement of a child overdose

A Raleigh caregiver has been charged Tuesday afternoon after a child overdosed at a daycare center.

Keya Cox, of Kindercare has been charged with misdemeanor child abuse.

The incident happened June 13, when police responded to a call of a child overdose at 2300 Bridgeport Drive.

The next day daycare officials said they fired the teacher and released a statement saying:

At KinderCare, nothing is more important to us than the safety of the children in our care.

Because the alleged incident happened under the care and supervision of one of our teachers, we decided to end the teacher’s employment.

The teacher in question is no longer a KinderCare employee.

The incident is still being investigated.
