Republican Bo Hines, who lost a tightly contested race for Congress in a Triangle-based district in 2022, is running for the U.S. House again, this time in a Greensboro-based district.

Hines announced he is running in North Carolina's 6th Congressional District in 2024 with a video announcement.

Democrat Kathy Manning currently represents the district, but state lawmakers redrew the congressional map last month. The district now favors a Republican candidate.

Former U.S. Rep. Mark Walker previously announced he is running for the GOP nomination in the district.

The 6th District includes parts or all of Guilford, Forsyth, Davidson, Davie, Rowan and Cabarrus counties.

"I'm the only America First Patriot in this race, and with your support, we can end the Biden Regime," Hines said in a text message announcement.

Hines said he would fight to defend the unborn, finish the border wall, protect gun rights, lower taxes and reduce regulations and push for term limits for Congress.

Hines, 28, played one season of football at N.C. State before transferring to Yale. He earned a law degree at Wake Forest. Hines announced his intention to run in several congressional districts in 2022 before landing in the 13th District, which includes southern Wake County and Johnston County.

"This state, and this great country, have given me endless opportunities," Hines said in a campaign announcement. "But the nation I grew up in is far different from the nation we live in today."

Walker, who becomes Hines' biggest GOP rival for the nomination, said in a statement: "I look forward to comparing my proven record to someone who is still trying to buy his first job. Bo lives 100 miles from the Triad, has announced in five congressional districts in two years and lost to a weak Democrat last year."

Democrat Wiley Nickel defeated Hines 51.6% to 48.4% in November 2022.

Republican Mary Ann Contogiannis is also running in the 6th District. The primary election is on March 5.
