North Carolina has its share of haunted history and folklore, like fairies in the North Carolina mountains or the haunted remnants of a city beneath the surface of a lake. That's why it's the perfect place for chilling Halloween thrills this year!

If you love getting scared, it's finally the time of year when you can find a Raleigh haunted house. Haunted houses are a tradition every October and there's plenty to choose from this year.

Make Halloween in Raleigh memorable this year by checking out one of these haunted houses!

1. 13th Door Haunted Manor (970 Frank Timberlake Rd, Timberlake)

Explore scares in the different rooms at this Halloween haunted house event while also supporting a good cause! This haunted house was built in 1854 and originally had 13 doors.

13th Door Haunted Manor is run by The Firefighter's Burned Children Fund of Person County, a non-profit organization that raises money for child burn survivors in the community.

These funds go towards the non-medical needs of child burn survivors and also fund local activities and trips.

In this haunted house experience, experience thrills and chills as you are guided through a haunted farmhouse and its many rooms with different spooky themes. The thrills continue after you exit the house and step onto their haunted wooded trail.

2. Darkside Haunted Estates (11959 NC-222 W, Middlesex)

This haunted experience has been around for over 20 years and is back this year with even more chilling experiences for visitors. There is so much to do at Darkside Estates that it's one of the best Halloween activities for a low price.

Your ticket to Darkside Estates includes entry to scary experiences like The Lost Crypt, The Forgotten Cabin, Insane Asylum, The Slaughterhouse, Clown Town, The Bundie Hotel, Rotten Korr Cemetery, and more.

Make sure also to take a frightening ride on the Mayhem Hayride, which you can only reach by daring to walk the 1/4 mile haunted walking trail.

3. Phillip's Farm (6720 Good Hope Church Rd, Cary)

Let fear creep in as your worst nightmares come to life while you explore the four creepy attractions on this haunted farm.

This frightful farm is open until Oct. 29 and features surprising scares, flashing lights, spooky sound effects, and dark spaces for you to find your way through.

This year's attractions include The Field of Lost Souls, The Gore House, The Rebellion Trail, and Big Top Terror.

4. Hawfields Civitan Haunted Forest (2115 NC Hwy 119 South B, Mebane)

Walk through the unexplained strange noises, howls, and scary sights coming from these woods for a limited time in October.

This 30-minute stroll full of scares features different scenes of terror, including ghouls, zombies, and lots of clowns.

Just when you think you've made it through, get ready to find your way through the infamous Dark Maze. Good luck making your way through the darkness while chainsaws, air horns, and creepy creatures distract you along the way.

There are also No Scare days on Saturday afternoons that provide fun for the whole family. There will be no scares for the kids, but there will be plenty of fun!

Make sure to catch your scares while you can at this haunted forest! This attraction is open Oct. 28, 29 and 31. There is one more no scare day on Oct. 29.

5. The Original Hollywood Horror Show (6333 Bass Mountain Rd, Snow Camp)

This haunted house boasts a variety of terrifying attractions. It is the only haunted house in North Carolina produced by Hollywood filmmakers and makeup artists. The Travel Channel named this place one of the Scariest Haunted Attractions in the country.

6. The Hotel (107 N. Railroad Street, Ahoskie)

Would you brave a haunted hotel that was built over a portal to hell? What if the guests of this hotel who checked out never actually left?

Make your way through the maze of this hellish hotel where you'll encounter the insidious entities that have taken hold of the property. These spirits can read your fears and conjure up the darkest ones as you make your way through each room that holds different terrors.

8. Bugle Boy Farm's Horror House (7289 Wyatt Dr, Summerfield)

Experience five unique and terrifying indoor environments at this haunted event wraps up on Oct. 28 this year.

This experience is unique in that there's something for the whole family. For those who come for terror and chills, the horror house walk-through is yours to explore for only $15.

There will also be food trucks available on certain dates (check their calendar) and kids' activities!
