79-year-old 'Unabomber' transferred to NC's Butner prison

Theodore John Kaczynski, 79, known as the "Unabomber" for his series of package bombs and anti-technology manifesto published in the Washington Post, was transferred to the federal prison hospital in Butner this week.

Kaczynski is serving eight life sentences after pleaded guilty to charges of illegally transporting, mailing and using bombs. He is linked to the deaths of three people and his bombs are alleged to have injured 23 more over a period of almost two decades.

It was only after Kaczynski's manifesto was published that his brother recognized his writing style and the man who was the subject of one of longest and most expensive investigations ever by the FBI was identified.

FMC Butner is known for treating male inmates with significant health issues.

Kaczynski was transferred on Dec. 14 from the Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado.
