5-month-old boy dies in Wilson County

An autopsy released Friday for a 5-month-old boy revealed his cause of his death remains undetermined.

Law enforcement found Ragnar Kucharski dead when responding to a welfare check, the autopsy states.

A toxicology test showed the boy tested negative for drugs.

Elyssa Kucharski, the boy’s mother, is accused of suffocating the boy in September 2023. She told Wilson County deputies on Sept. 28, 2023, that she left her son napping in an outbuilding behind a Lucama home belonging to her boyfriend's family and returned to find him lying facedown and unresponsive.

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said Ragnar Kucharski had been dead for some time before anyone called for help.

Kucharski is charged with Ragnar's murder, felonious child abuse and concealment of a death. Her boyfriend, Taylor Dale Lucas, 33, is charged with accessory to the murder, to child abuse and with concealing the child's death.

Lucas is not related to the child.
