I confess... it was only recently that I tried more Indian cuisine. My go-to has always been butter chicken dishes. Delicious!

My oldest asked to expand our palates by dining at a nearby Indian restaurant. We ended up at Taaza Bistro in Burlington, NC. Neither of us were familiar with the menu items. Therefore, I insisted we make our selections online before heading out. This saves time and maintains my sanity! My girls can often be indecisive about food choices-especially when they're unfamiliar.

Based on the online reviews, we expected the restaurant to be crowded. People rave about the food to say the least! We stopped by on a weekday evening and luckily, found ample seating. Lunch times and weekends probably tell a much different story.

What did we order?

1) 555 Chicken

This is listed under non-vegetable appetizers.

Menu description: Chicken strips, coated in rice flour with light spices, and sauteed with a creamy basil sauce.

We found it to be mildly spicy but very tasty.

2) Madras Curry with lamb. You can also choose chicken, goat, or shrimp.

This is listed under Non-Vegetable Entree items.

Menu description: An old fashioned southern Indian style curry, tempered with curry leaves and fresh coconut.

We consider it mildly spicy as well, and the lamb is really tender.

3) Saag with chicken. You can also choose lamb, goat, or shrimp.

Listed under Non-Vegetable Entree items.

Menu description: Cooked with homemade creamy spinach, herbs and spices.

This wasn't spicy to us at all and we especially enjoyed the creamy green sauce.

4) Garlic & Rosemary Naan

Listed under Freshly Charcoal-Baked Bread.

Warm and delicious! I had to purchase a second order to eat at home with our leftovers. My daughters devoured the first one.

Other menu options

Other available menu options are House Specials, Vegetable Entrees, Rice and Pasta dishes, South Indian choices, a Kidz Corner and Dessert items.

We dined in Burlington but Taaza Bistro also has a Greensboro location.

Reservations can be made online for each restaurant. Or, make them by phone.

Needless to say, we have no regrets! We were greeted with smiles, experienced excellent service, and our food was delicious. Another visit is inevitable.
