The town of Tarboro canceled its Christmas Parade, which had been rescheduled for Sunday, Dec. 17.

“We have consulted with several of our local television and weather departments and some of our trusted advisors to make this decision,” the town said in a statement on Facebook.

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected throughout the viewing area on Sunday. The impending weather prompted a Weather Alert Day from WRAL meteorologists.

Severe weather also canceled or postponed parades and Wool E.'s Winter Wonderland on Dec. 10, including Tarboro's.

The Tarboro Christmas Parade was originally scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 10.

The town said they met Thursday with parade participants to reschedule, but said many participants could not find the time to reschedule.

“We understand this is disappointing,” the group said. “We thank the Town of Tarboro, The Tarboro Police Department, the Public Works Department and the Recreation Department for their efforts.”

The group said they look forward to working with participants, vendors and viewers next year to provide the “biggest and best Christmas Parade ever.”
