2 handguns, drugs and nearly $27K cash seized: Fayetteville shooting investigation leads to arrest of two people

After a shooting, Fayetteville police officers seized two handguns, ammunition, drugs and nearly $27,000 cash.

Fayetteville police officers arrested a man and a woman Tuesday night after responding to reports of a shooting into an occupied car.

Officers found the victim at about 6:21 p.m. at Kincross Avenue and Rannock Drive. They learned the shooting happened at Seventy First School Road and Raeford Road.

The investigation led officers to identify William Cox IV and Britney Cox as the people involved in the shooting.

Then, officers found the Coxes at a home on Kincross Avenue near Bingham Drive. Officers saw a handgun in plain view.

After getting a search warrant, officers seized the following items from the home:

  • Two handguns
  • Assorted ammunition
  • 0.79 pounds of fentanyl
  • 0.02 pounds of cocaine
  • 0.01 pounds of marijuana
  • $26,921.11 cash

William Cox, 35, of Fayetteville is charged with accessory after the fact, three counts of trafficking fentanyl, two counts of possession with intent sale and deliver cocaine, two counts of maintaining a dwelling and possession of a firearm by a felon. Authorities are holding him/her at the Cumberland County Jail on a 305,000.00 secured bond.

Britney Cox, 33, of Fayetteville, is charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle, three counts of trafficking fentanyl, two counts possession with intent sale and deliver cocaine and two counts of maintaining a dwelling. Authorities are holding him/her at the Cumberland County Jail on a 300,000.00 secured bond.
