A 19-year-old Kinston teenager was charged with attempted first degree murder on Tuesday night, officials said.

A 19-year-old Kinston man was charged with attempted first degree murder on Tuesday night, officials said.

Khalil Dail, 21, was shot in the torso in the parking lot of 1401 W. Vernon Avenue around 12:45 a.m. When officials arrived, they arrested Deonko Hayes Brewer Jr. and held him under a $1 million bond in the Lenoir County Jail.

Dail was taken to the Vidant Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. Officials have not provided an update on Dail's condition or details on how the shooting started.

The shooting took place in a parking lot with several businesses and fast food restaurant across the street from a Walmart, according to police.

Officials with the Kinston Police Department said they will continue to investigate the crime.
