One person is in custody Wednesday in connection with a shooting in Lumberton that caused two schools to be placed under lockdown.

A 17-year-old juvenile has turned himself in for the shooting that occurred on Tuesday afternoon on the 500 block of Crandlemire Road in Lumberton.

Lumberton Police responded to reports of a person shot and found a 28-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was treated on scene by EMS and then airlifted to the hospital for treatment. Her injuries are considered life-threatening.

Officers identified the shooter as a 17-year-old juvenile who fled the area on foot after shooting the victim.

Lumberton Junior High and Knuckles Elementary School were put on lockdown as a precaution due to their closeness to the shooting location.
