U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces more closures
Federal authorities announced Monday that parts of John H. Kerr Dam and Reservoir along the North Carolina and Virginia border will be closed because of rising lake levels caused by Hurricane Michael.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers's Wilmington office said in a written statement that the following areas would be inaccessible:
- Palmer Point
- North Bend Main
- Eastland Creek
- Rudd's Creek
- Bluestone
- Staunton View
- Buffalo
- Grassy Creek
- Longwood
- Ivy Hill
Campgrounds: (Gate houses are open and gate attendants have current information.)
- Rudd's Creek: 79 out of 99 sites are open.
- North Bend Park: 47 sites closed. (In October, only Areas B and C are open.)
- Longwood: 41 out of 66 sites closed.
Officials said the only Army Corps ramps open are at Island Creek and the Old Marina Ramp at North Bend (Area A). All Day Use Parks are closed. Closures and lake predictions have been posted on the Project Face Book page at the following link; www.facebook.com/JohnHKerrReservoirBuggsIslandLake/.
